Yumi Himizawa (ひみざわユミ, Himizawa Yumi) was a kunoichi of Konohagakure and a descendant of the Himizawa Clan.
She sacrificed her life to protect the one she always considered her brother and a loved one in her life, Naruto.
Background[]
Yumi was the first and oldest daughter of Mihuna Himizawa and Sakujō Uchiha. She was born into the famed Himizawa clan of Hasugakure.

During the Nine-Tailed Demon Fox's Attack, she was home with her little sisters and her little brother. After this terrible night, her mother came back with a newborn baby in her arms, tears in her eyes. The newborn was Naruto Uzumaki. Mihuna had decided to adopt him after the death of her best friends, Minato and Kushina. Mihuna tells Yumi to promise to look after him and the rest of the family.
Yumi loved him like a real brother and as promised, taken care of and protect him for two years.
One night, the village was attacked and she was sent with her sisters and brothers to the underground corridors by her mother. The close family protection unit took charge of them and decided to split into two groups, to reduce the risk of attack and visibility. In tears, she said goodbye to Ayumu and Mana, who were sent to the other group. Being with Ikari and Naruto, whom she had tied in the meantime with a baby carrier, her group continued to advance until they left the corridors.

Personality[]
As a child, Yumi was extremely kind and caring, especially towards her family. She loved taking care of her siblings and helping others. Her only wish was everyone's happiness.
Following the incident with the death of her family and the separation with Naruto, Yumi became a completely different person. To protect herself, she created a second hardened and violent personality, the opposite from her old personality. When she entered the academy at Konoha, the kids in her class and the people of the village saw her as a disrespectful bully and a mean kid. Everyone avoided her by all means. She was claiming all the time that she was very strong and that the defeat doesn't exist. Her only wish was to fight powerful fighters to meet challenges and have thrills. Over the years at the academy, she started to demonstrate disgust towards children and towards those younger than her. She took pleasure in putting them down and laugh at them. Making several inappropriate remarks, such as questioning the Fourth Hokage's position and calling him incompetent, often had her put in punishment by the professor of the academy and she found it funny to make him react so much. Her mean attitude earned her the nickname Demon of the Hidden Leaf (木ノ葉隠れの悪魔, Konohagakure no Akuma) by the other children and the parents.
In the first part of the series, she seems very indifferent to events. She makes fun of others everytime and put them down. She is very condescending.
Later in the series, Yumi's emotional side is more revealed, showning to be a very protective person to the people she loves, especially towards Naruto and children, who pushed children away for fear of hurting them and re-traumatizing being the reason for their death. It was also shown that she has always suffered from anxiety and depression, hidden deep inside her, to the point that she ignored them. She regretted having abandoned Naruto and to, whom she considered her little brother, and having let him suffer from other villagers. When she knew that Naruto was assaulted by Karui, she became enraged and for the first time, her face showed dark anger and described as terrifying by Naruto.
Nudity was also not a problem for her, not being an embarrassed person. She asserted herself completely.

When she invited Naruto to have a meal with her, Yumi was shown to be a person who hates to cook, and quickly gives up. Although she pushes herself harder to cook good food for Naruto, she shows that she has no patience for cooking and collapses on the floor in exhaustion and frustration.

Yumi is a slender girl, has fair skin, and as a Himizawa, has purple eyes and blonde hair, tied in two long ponytails. She is known to be pretty, like her mother, Mihuna. She inherited the unique traits of the Himizawa Clan, who are known to grow slowly and keep a youthful appearance. By Part II, Yumi developed a very shapely figure, which surprised most people. Also, throughout the series, she will have a small size for her age.
When she was a child, she wore a pink dress and a white long-sleeved shirt under it, with a red ribbon tied around her waist and behind her back.

In the Part I, because of her small height, she seems to be a pre-adolescent. Her attire consists of a white camisole, which is worn under a red jacket, and has a red apron skirt. She sports this attire with bandages on her legs. She does not wear her forehead protector, even during missions, thinking it was ridiculous to put importance on indicating the origin of the ninja.
As the start of Part II, she was wearing a long red coat, a bandana, a mask, and black protective glasses that concealed her eyes. When she returned to Konoha with Naruto after leaving her team, she wears a bikini top with a mesh shirt worn over it, red short shorts, and a black choker around her neck. Sometimes, she is seen with a white, sleeveless outfit with a skirt end that has a slit down the side.

Yumi appears for the first time in the series at the Chūnin Exams. Having opted to abandon the other year before, she took part again in the Chūnin Exams along with the Rookie Nine. She was known to have abandoned four years in a row, because she did not find powerful fighters.
Having passed the first stage of the Chūnin Exams, Yumi proceeded onto the second phase with her team. She spoke briefly with Naruto in front of the Forest of Death, mocking him that he won't be able to pass this test with his team of "loser".
Before the preliminary matches, Yumi decided to give up again, saying sarcastically that no one interested her yet, angering people around her. She leaves with the Third Hokage's permission before the assignment of first round match-ups in the finals, shortly after Kabuto has left.

Creation and Conception[]
Yumi Himizawa is an original and fictional character created for the manga and anime of Naruto.
Her physical design was based on the two character from different series. Alita Forland from the Murder Princess and Jasdevi from the D.Gray-man. Jasdevi inspired the color that represents Yumi and her starting hair color. Alita inspired the hairstyle and the eyes color.
Her name Himizawa, is derived from the name Hinamizawa (雛見沢), a fictional village from the Higurashi no Naku Koro ni series.
Old Conception[]
When the author was young, she created Yumi with her imagination and here the following descriptions:
- In her old physical design's part I, her hair was blond with black locks on the ends of her hair, wore white arm warmers, and she had a normal size. Also, she was in the same class as Naruto and the others, so younger than the age she is now.
- In the part II, she wore a pink kimono with red and green flower patterns, black knee-high boots, and wore a sword behind his back.
- In her old story, she was a resident of Konohagakure, and her parents were never shown, remaining unknown in the series. She never had Naruto as a brother and did not act as a protector towards him. She was a Pseudo-Jinchūriki, having Gyūki's chakra sealed into her.

- Yumi (ユミ) is a common feminine Japanese given name which is occasionally used as a surname.
- Following her memory loss, she adopted the alias of Yumi.
- When he was young, Naruto relied on Yumi for his Sexy Technique, finding her as a perfect female model, hence the two long ponytails.
